TOPAZ SHELTIES NEWS

  • 2007.09.04 - As soon as I say they are not going down the long flight of stairs, they do!!! Don't blink because they are learning so fast that you will miss it. Ryder left for his new home over labor day weekend. As of last phone call, he has been 100% going potty outside. He has already learned how to let them know when he wants back inside. That means he knows how to maneuver their outside stairs, too. What a bunch of overachievers!

Bi blacks are striking and very dramatic in their coloring. The simple fact is that most people don't recognize them as shelties because they are most familiar with the sable and white shelties. They are less common because their genetics require a match of two bi black genes, one from each parent. Other colors are dominant or merling covers up the bi-black coat color. I predict that bi-blacks will become more prevalent once people catch on to their uniqueness!

Next we are going to try some action shots at the park, so that people can see the dynamics of their personalities. Fluffy, gorgeous, cuddly, out-going, high quality and precious beyond belief are the words I use for them.

  • 2007.08.28 - The first two puppies left for new homes Tuesday night--Patty, bi blue female, and Ringo, bi black male. All these puppies have had a lot of time learning to do things. They jump off small heights and climb and scale cushions and do stairs, (down long flights, not so much, yet. Topaz will go and corral them first before they go very far on the long flight down to the family room--I was watching closely. Outside, when there is just two steps, she isn't worried. She didn't like them on the pool cover, though, even though it will hold a several hundred pounds. What a Mom!!), etc. Patty likes to be held, too. She will lie sleeping while chaos reigns right next to her. Pretty funny. Ringo will snuggle into your neck. They are both very precious.

  • 2007.08.27 - The puppies are so much fun to watch. I love holding them, too; but they are so inventive with their play. They can now navigate stairs and the doggie door with the ramp. They love the doggie door because they can run in and out as they want. It is a bit much having 7 puppies running in and out! So, I block it off to keep them in one area outside for a while. They trampled some of my flowers and started to tear up a broom. The flowers will grow back and the broom was rescued. Their little minds are making connections as fast as they can be exposed to new things. It is clear that they are ready for new opportunities!

  • 2007.08.23 - Puppies will be available on Tuesday the 28th. They will have had one deworming, one vet exam, all dewclaws removed and their first puppy shot. They have been well socialized, living 100% in our family room. They have been exercised in our backyard and held everyday. They have had their nails clipped 3 - 4 times already and their feet trimmed. Ears, as needed, have been glued to produce great ear set. They have been given a bath and blown dry. They are well on their way to becoming the "bestest" of pets!!!

  • 2007.08.21 - Puppies personalities are starting to pop!!! They are learning incredibly fast, too. They are using their outside time to race around and get their exercise. They check out every new thing they see!! They have discovered chewies and are focusing on them!!! Love their ability to work together and to problem solve. Champion sired, these puppies have great temperaments!!! They will be ready to go to new homes in just one week -- Tuesday, August 28th.

  • 2007.08.17 - This week was a big week for the puppies. They are spending more time outside getting to know their world. They got their first puppy shot and are ready to have their ears glued. Yes, I do mean glued. We want all their ears to be perfect sheltie ears with correct ear set and tipping. So, pictures of them might start looking a little unusual--but their cutenesses will still shine through. Of course, they are also experiencing their first baths and that is really wild!

  • 2007.08.13 - The puppies, of course, want to explore, so when we do photo shoots now they are off "the set" faster than you can say their name. Speaking of names, we have decided to change the girl's "boy sounding" names to real girl names. So, henceforth Blaze becomes Winnie and Junior becomes Lilly. As new owners get their dogs they will be able to change their call names anyway. We just felt this would help clear up any misconceptions about their sex. Meanwhile, they are having a ball discovering all their surroundings. Ryder actually went out the doggie door already!!! What a prodigy. Their first baths are really showing off their fluffiness!!. Soon I will be gluing ears to ensure nice Sheltie ears. Stay tuned.

  • 2007.08.07 - The puppies seemed to have taken a big leap forward, as they are like real little "doggies" now. They are active and you can see their little brains starting to work and figure things out. They are eating their "gruel" regularly and don't have to depend on Mom; although, anytime she is near they want a snack!! I took them to the vet today and he felt they were all doing very well. He gave a little lesson on what to do to get them to understand their "position" and learn to trust their owners. Those lessons will start right away.

  • 2007.07.30 - The puppies are active and playing with each other. They are trying out their vocals which sound absolutely adorable. Tussling and tugging is the activity of the day; although, they still sleep a lot. Mama is spending more time watching them from afar and we are beginning to feed them some goats milk and soft kibble. Personalities are starting to form. I can't believe that they are already 4 weeks old.

  • 2007.07.26 - We are amidst redesigning our photo galleries to showcase the puppies individually. Please be patient as we work this through.

  • 2007.07.23 - Puppies are starting to interact with each other and with people. Ryder is known to play with whatever is at his level-- e.g., Tasha's pants leg. With the puppies being more active, it certainly does make our photo shoots interesting!

  • 2007.07.19 - I am amazed at how the puppies are changing so quickly since their birth. All now have their eyes opened, and their ears are all open as well. They will be starting to walk this coming week. I have also noticed that their fur is getting fluffier . Their photographs will start to show more character to them!! We're hoping for our weekly photo shoot on the 22nd.

  • 2007.07.15 - "Paris" opened her eyes today! The puppies are attempting to learn how to walk; they are so cute as they wobble about, while trying to maintain some sense of balance! They had their individual puppy photos taken today. Hopefully soon, the photos will be uploaded to the photo gallery. It's well worth the slight wait!

  • 2007.07.10 - The puppies are healthy and growing well! We've updated the photo gallery with photos from July 4th and 8th. Also, we've added a forms area to our menu; please feel free to peruse the documentation.

  • 2007.07.04 - In the wee hours of July 3rd, Topaz delivered her first litter of puppies. You can find more information at the puppies page. Along with the birth of her puppies is the unveiling of our website. We hope you enjoy perusing the site and feel free to contact us for any reason!
