About Us

My husband and I, Steve and Jo-Ann Edlefsen, have had shelties in our lives off and on for the past 25+ years. When we married I had two adult shelties AND a litter of five puppies--just two weeks old. Now two and ½ decades later I am taking up where I left off, except that I have four shelties, a daughter with two of her own and my mom with one. Kirsten and her husband, Andy, live in Utah where they are both finishing their bachelor degrees. I guess I rubbed off a little on her.

We live next to Los Angeles airport in a 3 bedroom home that (as our human children continue to grow and leave) has more and more room for shelties ((Topaz, Gizmo, Chimere, and Pixel). Topaz is our only show sheltie, as the others were purchased as pets. I work closely with two fabulous breeders: Rose Marie Doran (Granite Gables) in Oregon and Beki Vale (Sunnyvale Shelties) in Arizona. I have managed to place a few of Rose Marie's puppies within “arms reach” of me. We are just starting the show careers of all these dogs. They will appear on my website under SHELTIE FRIENDS.

We have full time jobs, but I will someday retire to life full of shelties. I spend many of my weekends at dog shows and am learning about the wide array of sheltie abilities. For anyone looking for a companion, a therapy, hearing assistance or sight assistance dog, consider a sheltie. They are one of the most intelligent breeds and are not as high maintenance as some of the other herding dogs. You can never go wrong with a well bred sheltie.
